New software module for automatic wear measurement

The new, optional software for wear measurement enables the visualization and quantitative assessment of wear on the basis of high-resolution real 3D measurement data. The software was developed in cooperation with Sandvik Coromant. Users automatically measure difference and wear parameters according to ISO 8688 (Tool Life Testing in Milling), such as flank wear.
The 3D data enable standard-compliant evaluation and visualization. Thus the actual wear is identifiable and measurable. In addition, the course of wear over a defined period of time is represented in high resolution by animated 3D data sets and profiles. The wear measurement of the entire edge enables a defined zone evaluation on the cutting tool.

Optical measuring system with new software for automatic segmentation and classification


InfiniteFocusSL is a cost efficient optical 3D measurement system for easy, fast and traceable measurement of form and finish on micro structured surfaces. Users measure both form and roughness of components with only one system. In addition, color images with high contrast and depth of focus are achieved. The long working distance of up to 33mm in combination
with its measurement field of 50mm x 50mm allows a wide range of applications. Measurements are achieved in seconds and
features, such as a coaxial laser for quick and easy focusing, further increase usability. With an automation interface, InfiniteFocusSL is also applied for fully automatic measurement in production.


Intelligent algorithms for automatic segmentation and classification
A number of expansion options for automatic segmentation and classification of surface features complete the automation options. Intelligent, self-learning algorithms are the basis of a smart method to characterize, segment, analyze and classify surfaces. Subsequently, relevant parameters for surface evaluation are automatically derived and evaluated. Bruker Alicona currently offers solutions for the analysis of grain size distribution on grinding tools and for the evaluation of sandblasted and laser machined surfaces.

Cobots - How to combine optical 3D metrology and collaborative robotics

Cobots consist of a collaborative 6-axis robot and an optical 3D measuring sensor, providing repeatable and traceable measurements in high resolution also in production. All Bruker Alicona Cobots are equipped with our IF-Sensor R25, while its mechanical base can be customized depending on the measuring task and the component to be measured. Cobots are used in all areas of precision manufacturing. Currently, they are most commonly used in the aerospace, tooling and automotive sector. What all designs have in common regardless of the application: Cobots are “allrounders” in quality assurance, designed for efficient and highly user- friendly measurement automation.

Optical µCMM micro coordinate measuring system for automatic measurement and evaluation of 3D data

It is all about “What do I measure?” instead of “How do I measure?” The new µCMM operating software MetMaX is based on this core question. The operation of the micro coordinate measuring machine is designed in a way that operators do not need to have any special metrology or user knowledge to make the best possible use of the measuring machine. The knowledge of how to measure and evaluate 3D data is part of the µCMM software MetMaX.

This is how it works
As soon as the CAD data set of a component has been uploaded, the user selects by mouse click which GD&T or PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) characteristics are to be measured. µCMM uses MetMaX to automatically configure the ideal measurement strategy for 3D measurement of the part. The µCMM software autonomously calculates probing directions (from above or laterally), tilt and rotation angles and travel directions in XYZ. Before the measurement is started a virtual simulation ensures a collision-free measurement sequence. The measurement is started by the operator with a mouse click and is then fully automatic. After the part has been measured in 3D, the data is automatically evaluated. If, for example, form deviations are to be verified, µCMM decides independently with MetMaX which geometric form (cylinder, plane, sphere, etc.) must be fitted. A reporting system which complies with modern industry standards and can be configured user-specifically gives an ok/not ok result.
